Chess was the Winner

The Viking Game. Before chess there were other games and even chess took time to become the format we know today. We forget things have an origin and took time to develop. It was our love of games that is important. And the core of that is what we need to remember, and love, and defend,
....and not the current flavor of it.
Democracy is such a thing.
It is the meaning of what democracy is that we need to value, and not our specific flavor of it.
We must love the idea of a thing and its roots and origins.
All things evolve and change over time. But our love of play and games do not. So it is the idea of a thing that matters. And we should not fight over a current form of it. Nor should we think the current flavors were always the root and origin; it was not.
A lot of history, some not so nice, a lot of ideas and thinking, went into developing the concept. We need to value the idea of things, and remember it takes commitment to the idea, and not the current flavor of it.
We need to value the idea of important things and protect it.
